POLDEN GROUP OF WI AUTUMN MEETING
Woolavington WI hosted the second group meeting of the year welcoming members of local WIs to an evening with the Stoggymen; so called because they come from Stogumber.
The hall was decorated with our green WI banners, made by some talented members, and the tables were adorned with bowls of colourful autumn leaves and harvest fruits together with a corn dolly and red apples.
After a short business meeting Rod introduced the eight members who entertained us with some good old Somerset songs – I wish I was back on the Farm - as well as folk ballads old and not quite so old - Ralph McTell's The Streets of London was especially well received.
Rod was an amusing raconteur providing the singers and their guitar player with some well-earned breaks.
After a delicious ploughman's supper of cheese, quiche and ham followed by a choice of Pavlova (Corena's special) or Teresa's home-made apple pie we settled down for a further set.
Reluctantly time was called and appreciation showed to the Stoggymen then goodbyes were said to close another great evening of fun and fellowship.
Next event for the group is the Carol Service at Puriton Church 7th December at 7.30pm
