MAY 2015 A.G.M.
AGM night at Woolavington WI and a speaker with a difference. Before opening for the business meeting we welcomed Sandra Spencer, an NHS physiotherapist, talking on “your pelvic floor – your best friend”. Sandra believes the pelvic floor to be the most underrated part of our bodies as it supports the contents of the pelvis such as the bladder and bowel. Sandra helps those women who suffer from prolapse, which often becomes evident some years after childbirth, as well as those with incontinence problems, something which can affect both men and women. She approached this serious topic with sensitivity and plain speaking.
The fun came when we attempted to perform pelvic floor exercises. Swaying and elevating the body is definitely not allowed though very amusing to watch. Any movement means you are not doing doing the exercises correctly! The show and tell table was even more hilarious as we tried to identify from the items on display those five which were not used by Sandra to help sufferers to improve their pelvic floor muscles. Amongst the rogue items were a ring for a bull's nose, a mixer for a sports shaker and a handle for carrying plastic bags, not all of which were correctly picked out! (see our facebook page for photos of the display.)
An excellent speaker who delivered a serious message whilst still having fun.
At the AGM the committee were returned unanimously for a further term, with the addition of Jaquitta who had recently been co opted.
Corena gave the committee report on meetings, outings and activities which had taken place last year and we were surprised at how much we had done.
Teresa, President, gave a short address thanking the committee and the members for their continued support and presented the committee with WI notelets
The treasurer gave her report and we were pleased to hear that finances were healthy.
Jaquitta was awarded the President's cup.
Members were reminded of the visit to Clarks shoe museum, next month's garden party, group quiz and the August outing to Dartmouth, friends being welcome to join us.
Refreshments and a book sale rounded off the evening.
