WOOLAVINGTON WI MARCH MEETING REPORT
Steve Greenhalgh began his presentation “Road safety at 60+ “ with a question and answer session, at which we achieved a creditable score of 19/20, the elusive twentieth being later identified as a soft verge warning sign.
Steve is an ex police officer having served with Avon and Somerset for 34 years, 30 of which were spent in traffic. Now working with Somerset County Council he travels the county giving groups the benefit of his years of experience and in his words “helping you drive safely for longer”, his words of wisdom being relevant to all ages. Topics ranged from legal requirements and helpful advice to interesting facts.
Whilst mobile phones are a distraction if used irresponsibly whilst driving they are invaluable for use in the “golden hour” in the unfortunate event of a collision and we should all have our emergency contact ICE (In Case of Emergency) entry on our phones. The goody bag, amongst such delights as a lightweight poncho, torch, reflective jacket and keyring with provision for your ICE contact number, contained a copy of the Highway Code, which it is hoped all will use to brush up on their possibly outdated knowledge.
Steve's illustrated talk was both humorous and insightful, giving us food for thought.
Reminders were given for the Spring Group meeting at Weston Zoyland, Coffee morning at Corena's on the 28 April and Group Quiz to take place at Woolavington on 19th June.
Maureen was the lucky winner of the ballot for a ticket to the Buckingham Palace Garden Party.
