WOOLAVINGTON WI MEETING JUNE 2015
WI bunting, made by members, in various shades and patterns of green welcomed us to the Summer Garden Party and led the way to a member’s secluded cottage garden, whose colourful borders were much admired.
An earlier than usual start meant that we were able to remain outside for the whole evening and take full advantage of the view.
A magnificent spread of ham, cheese, quiche, salad and various accompaniments was served followed by Corena's legendary pavlova crammed with assorted berries and cream and the scrumptious chocolate cake together with the fruit cake made from the authentic centenary anniversary recipe by Teresa was also much appreciated.
There was a sociable buzz of conversation amongst the tables between past and present members and we were pleased to welcome a visitor, shortly to become a member.
Business was kept to a minimum but members were interested to hear the Knit and Stitch group had come to the end of their most recent project, which has involved making Nursery Rhyme characters for the young years at Woolavington School. These will be used to help the children with reading and speech skills and are to be handed over at a special event at the school at the end of the month. The group have enjoyed the project, having completed 16 boxes of different Nursery Rhymes, and are looking forward to the next challenge.
The “Glasto Cake Group”, comprising of Teresa, Dawn and Cindy, have excelled themselves having now upwards of 40 cakes baked and in the freezer ready for delivery for the Somerset WI's Tea and Cakes stall, which will be at the festival for the very first time. An appropriate venture to celebrate the Centenary of WI in England and Wales and publicise our changing image – not just jam and Jerusalem but always gorgeous cakes!
