JULY 2015 MEETING
Ooh la-la! There was a distinctive Gallic flavour, not to mention aroma, (due to the delicacies being prepared in the kitchen), to the July meeting which had of course been billed as a French Evening.
True to form members and guests had risen to the occasion. Amongst the berets and red, white and blue outfits were French waitresses and maids and of course an onion seller. One visitor came as a tricoteuse complete with knitting needles and work in progress.
In the business meeting Teresa reported on the Centenary AGM and our recent successful skittles match, gave details of the forthcoming President’s tea and invited members to help with donations for the Village Show.
The magnificent spread of such delights as French cheese, bread, pastries, cakes, pates and of course escargots – still recognisable as snails - was much appreciated, as were the beautiful table decorations of red, white and, blue flowers and French flags.
Sarah Chant, dressed to impress for the occasion, provided French music played on the accordion to which we were able to sing and dance.
Whilst Sarah took a welcome break there was a question and picture quiz testing our knowledge of France, also a French language session, when we sang along to a song using various easy phrases with English translation
The evening closed with a rousing rendition of the Marseillaise led by Sarah.
