An early start for our special party night celebrating the 75th birthday of the WI in Woolavington combined with the Centenary of the Somerset Federation. Our new green damask tablecloths, colourful table decorations and hand made bunting enhancing our well kept hall.
Teresa welcomed our WI Advisor and Board of Trustees members, representatives from our sister WIs in the Polden Group, together with an almost full membership.
Teresa read an interesting extract from the minutes of the first meeting held on May 24th 1943 at the Communal Hall attended by 29 members at which President Mrs Esme Wright announced that all girls would be eligible to join as soon as they had left school.
Entertainment followed in the form of a most enjoyable and talented flute and piano duo who performed music over the seven decades asking us to guess the year. We found we were more successful in identifying the tunes.
Refreshments consisting of a generous ploughman’s with quiche, cheese and ham and several mouthwatering desserts accompanied by wine and non alcoholic beverages were enjoyed before Corena's celebration cake was cut by May and distributed with a glass of bubbly.
