MEETING REPORT WOOLAVINGTON WI JANUARY 2018
A fun activity evening to open the year in January as we enjoyed Kurling with Walton WI. This indoor version of curling uses any smooth surface to enable the stones to glide on bearings and can be played by anyone, even the less mobile, as the stones can be propelled with a pusher rather like the sweepers used in the ice version. In fact Kurling began as a sporting idea for the disabled but quickly became popular with people of all ages and abilities as disabled can play with or against able bodied on an equal level. A portable target gives scores but the trick is to be vigorous enough to push the stone the length of the hall in order to reach it. After a practice session and refreshments we returned to the semi finals and Jaquitta emerged as the winner, receiving a well deserved certificate.
There were four birthdays to celebrate with cards and posies. Anne Craig was presented with the skittles cup as being the most improved player of the season, having only started playing last year. Well done Anne. Mary Spikings won the monthly competition with her pretty Christmas card.
Lots of events ahead in this centenary year for Somerset WIs which we shall also be celebrating at Woolavington. Plenty to please in our own dates for your diary leaflet.
March meeting is “An evening at home” when we will be nostalgic and play some old games. Anyone for Ovaltine? Or maybe Horlicks or perhaps hot chocolate.
We meet every 3rd Tuesday in the Village Hall at 7.30 where visitors will be made very welcome.
